DESCRIPTION
The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP) is a nonprofit organization, located in Harrisburg, PA, dedicated to the promotion and support of its 91 independent, nonprofit member colleges and universities. The organization has several main functions including advocacy, communications, efficiencies, and research.
This internship may be fully remote (see travel requirement below), in person at our office in Harrisburg, or hybrid.
For this internship, we are looking for a student from one of our member schools who is focusing on communications and/or advocacy work in their studies. This may include majors in Communications, Political Science, Marketing, Government Relations, Social Justice, etc.
This internship will provide an opportunity to work with staff at AICUP to promote our member schools with state legislators and the community. The selected intern will work closely with our Vice President for Government Relations and our Manager of Communications to do everything from create social media campaigns to attending meeting with legislators in the Capitol. We will be working on several advocacy events and this position will assist with the beginning stages of planning, scheduling, and branding, among other items.
We are asking for a minimum of 15 hours per week (though more may be possible for the right candidate), and are flexible on what days and times (week days preferred). Position can start as early as August and will run through the beginning of December.
THERE IS A REQUIREMENT TO TRAVEL TO NYC ON DECEMBER 3-4, 2022 FOR OUR ANNUAL PA SOCIETY EVENT. AICUP will provide transportation, lodging and meals. Please do not apply if you are not able and willing to travel to New York for that weekend.
End Result – Leave the internship with a portfolio of social media campaigns that you have designed and implemented, complete with metrics and impact numbers. Additionally, gain valuable skills in advocacy (meet some members of the PA State House and Senate!) and in event planning. You never know where those types of connections can take you in the future!
JOB DUTIES
Communications- Assist with the development of creative concepts and promotional strategies for AICUP including, but not limited to, press releases, blog posts, social media campaigns and posts, and data visualization
Government Relations- Attend meetings with PA House and Senate members to discuss AICUP positions on higher education issues with our VP of Government Relations.
Event Planning - Help create and plan several events including Pennsylvania Society Event, virtual AICUP Advocacy Meetings, AICUP Annual Presidents Meeting and other events some of which actually take place in the Spring.
Marketing- Develop content and campaigns for promotional materials including social media posts and website information
Design- Create and manage photo and video content
REQUIRED SKILLS
Possess the capacity to suggest innovative ideas and understand target audiences
Exceptional writing ability
Ability to collect, synthesize, and relay information from diverse sources
Must be creative and resourceful
Must be able to multi-task
Experience with using social media: Primarily Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn
Proficiency with Microsoft office
HELPFUL, BUT NOT REQUIRED, SKILLS
Skills with Powerpoint, Canva, Photoshop (or GIMP), OpenShot Video Editor, OBS Studio, and Illustrator a plus
Experience with WordPress
