TEGNA'S Producer-in-Residence is back! The most fun and challenging local news producer development program ever designed is again hiring the best and brightest college journalism grads from across the country. Great TEGNA journalists coach you to produce innovative content across all platforms in a full-time position at one of 15 great TEGNA stations. If you're the most talented senior producer at your college this is the most amazing opportunity available to start your career!

Responsibilities:

The program will involve a one-week producer boot camp in late June 2021 where you'll learn from the best newscast and digital producers in the industry. Then you'll start a two-year full-time placement as a producer at one of 15 TEGNA stations, learning how to produce unique, exciting, shareable content across all platforms while assigned to an innovative show. You'll be paired with another Producer-in-Residence to help you learn and grow together with our station trainers.

This is a chance to get real-world experience producing newscasts and integrating digital and social content. We'll provide the training, experience, and resources. You supply the ambition, creative content, and passionate journalism!

As a Producer-in-Residence, you and your counterpart from the program will receive regular station feedback on your work, consistent corporate training and check-ins on your progress. You'll also have the opportunity to be promoted as a producer in TEGNA at the end of your successful two-year performance.

This is a full-time job, NOT an internship. You sign a two-year contract. It comes with full-time pay and eligibility for benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401K). New hires will need to successfully complete a writing test and background check.

Here's how we make our selections:

  • Complete the online application and attach a cover letter and resume that includes education, internship experience, awards, extracurricular activities, and a link(s) to your work, which should include writing samples that showcase your creative writing ability

  • Our team will review your application and contact you directly if we believe you would be a great candidate for PIR

  • When contacted you will be asked to take a timed writing test so we can judge your skills against other applicants

  • Each selected participant will receive a contract and assigned work location. We try to match you to one of your top five station choices among 15 stations across the country.

  • If you are not selected for PIR, don't worry! You're still in our candidate pool and may be contacted for future entry level TEGNA producer opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field

  • Strong academic performance (3.2 min. overall GPA)

  • Professional initiative as evident through completed internships and/or work experience

  • Strong creative writing skills

  • Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism

  • Proficiency with digital and social media platforms

  • Skills in critical thinking and creative problem solving

  • Organizational skills and the ability to work calmly under deadline and in breaking news situations

  • Your own transportation & a valid driver's license

  • Willingness to relocate
